Co-living at Utopia: questions
The practical details of living in the house in Fresnaye.
- How long can I stay?
- Stays run from a few nights to several months. Rooms are booked through Airbnb, so the current minimum stay and pricing for each room is shown on its listing.
- What's included?
- A furnished private room with a bed, desk or workspace and a lock on the door, plus full use of the kitchen, lounge with pool table, pool, hot tub, braai area, patios and garden. Wi-Fi, utilities and a regular cleaning service for the shared areas are included.
- Do I share a bathroom?
- It depends on the room. The Garden En-suite has its own private bathroom with shower and the Private Cottage has a fully private bathroom; the Fireplace, Garden King and Poolside rooms use shared bathrooms.
- Can I work from the house?
- Yes — the house is set up for it. Every room has a desk or dedicated workspace, the internet is high speed, and an inverter keeps power and connectivity going through load shedding.
- Who else lives here?
- Up to five or six housemates at a time, a mix of Cape Town locals and international travellers. Everyone here is conscientious and easy going, and the shared spaces are big enough to be sociable or keep to yourself.
- Is there parking?
- Yes. There is free parking on the premises, plus free on-street parking in the neighbourhood.
- Is the area safe?
- Fresnaye and the wider Atlantic Seaboard are considered among the safest neighbourhoods in Cape Town, and the property has exterior security cameras. Shops and the ocean front are a two minute walk.
- Can I have visitors?
- Guests are welcome in the shared areas — the braai area is built for it. Message the host through your Airbnb listing about overnight visitors so the house stays comfortable for everyone.
